Whichever you are, this program was designed with you in mind. (OK I lied. I wro}te it so I wouldn't have to do the @#%#! screens by hand!) When you first load Robo-C-Set up, you will h }ave to wait a few seconds for it to draw the screen. When it is done, the yellow cursor will appear in the upper l }eft of your screen. You move the cursor around with the joystick, and when you want to plot an item, sel }ect an item, or perform a function where the cursor is at, you press the button. The cursor will wrap around the s }creen. The screen is divided into several areas. The majority of the screen is the design window. Th }is is where you design your screen. You may notice that the design window is without a left boundary. Don't worry}. The boundary is there in the game, there just was not enough room to put it on the screen. The other three boundarie}s are there, and you cannot alter them. On the right side of the screen is the icon menu. Here are the different }icons you can use. There is a white cursor showing which icon is currently selected. Everything down to the bomb i}con is self-explainatory. The next 5 icons after the bomb are the security robots. The arrow next to these icons shows} the direction that they will start. The last three icons are the mutation box, the exit portal, and the starting }square. At the bottom of the screen is the status line and the command window. The status line tells you how many} of certain objects are on the screen, and how much time the player gets. The command window has the options "SAVE", } "LOAD", and "CLR" on it. In the bottom right hand corner is two arrows, a question mark, and a clock. These will be} explained later. To edit, all you have to do is select the icon you want in the icon window, move to th}e design window, and plot wherever you want. If you make a mistake in editing, you can move to the error and press } the SPACE BAR and it will be erased. When you are done with one icon, select another and continue editing. } Some items have limits on them. You may have up to 60 security robots on the screen, and no more. The program kee}ps track and will not let you plot any more. You may have up to 99 pieces of uranium and plutonium (all together),} and up to 99 blocks. You may have one and only one starting square, mutation box, and exit portal. On }the status line, you can see how many of each of these items you have. Plutonium, blocks and robots are pi}ctured with a number next to them. This number is how many there are. If the number is green, it is OK. If the n}umber is red, there are too few of the item. The program will not allow you to have more than the maximum of each. } Also on the status line, are indicators showing if you have a mutation box, starting square, and exit porta }l. You cannot have more than one of each. If you plot a security robot, you will notice a little arrow !}next to it. This shows the direction that the robot will start in. There are two ways to change the arrows. You "}can press the arrow key, or you can select the arrow icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. Changing the a#}rrow direction will not affect robots already plotted. If you are burnt out creatively, you can randomly$} put items on the screen. Simply select an icon with the cursor, and then move to the question mark and press the %}button. The item you selected will be placed randomly on the screen until you release the button or it reaches its&} limit. To change the time allowed per screen, simply move the cursor to the clock icon and press the bu'}tton. You can select the # of minutes, from 1 to 18, by moving the stick horizontally. Press up on the stick when(} you are done. The time allowed is displayed on the status line. If you want to clear the screen, move the c)}ursor to the "CLR" at the bottom of the screen and press the button. The program will ask you to confirm by pressi*}ng Y. If you do, the data on the screen will be erased, never to be seen again. Pressing any other key will abort D} 3E:}DISK OPERATING SYSTEM II VERSION 2.0SCOPYRIGHT 1980 ATARIA. DISK DIRECTORY I. A human team was sent in to stem the damage, but was immediatelH}y killed by the security robots, whose circuits went haywire in the accident. One man wasn't killed by the robots, but was fI}ried in ten seconds by the radiation. The Government, in an attempt to stop the disaster and devastion of their P.R. (not toJ} mention billions of dollars and thousands of lives) decided to take one last chance: the HWE-9 HazMat Recovery Droid. StillK} in the testing stage, the "Howie" is immune to radiation and hazardous chemicals. However, it has no defensive mechanisms oL}r weapons, and must avoid the security robots to complete its mission. And if time should run out.... there will be no way tM}hat the President can be re-elected. You, with the joystick, are "Howie". Your job is to collect all of the plutonium aN}nd uranium in each of the ten screens. In addition, you must destroy all the security robots on each level, by moving the vaO}rious Cadmium Blocks into their paths and causing them to collide with each other, for the exit to open. You only have 5 chaP}nces before your game ends. So pull up a chair, grab a joystick, and begin. When you load the game, you will be presentQ}ed with the title screen. Pressing SELECT will allow you to start at any difficulty level between 1 and 15. Pressing start R}will begin the game. The difficulty levels are numbered between one and 65. The screens are numbered between A and J. If (S}and this is a big IF) you complete screen J, you will begin screen A of the next difficulty level. MOVEMENT: You can T}move horizontally or vertically (not diagonally). To do so, you simply push the stick in the direction you want to go. You U}can push the blocks around, but you cannot push them through things. You can also throw a block in front of you over your heV}ad, so it ends up behind you. To do this, press the button and point the joystick in the direction of the block. Do this to W}free a block trapped in a corner or against a wall. ITEMS YOU WILL FIND Steel Walls- These walls are perfectly safX}e to touch, but they are impenetrable. They are green in color. Electric walls- These are steel walls which are highlyY} electrified. If you run into them, you will be fried on the spot. You can stand alongside of them, however. These look liZ}ke the regular steel walls, except they are red. Cadmium blocks- You can push these blocks around the screen, and any s[}ecurity robot which hits them will bounce off of them. They are indestructible. Security walls- These walls are design\}ed so the security robots can pass through them unharmed while they patrol the reactor, but any intruders (like you) who touc]}h them will not live to tell about it. Weak walls- These walls have been eaten away by steel termites (A genetic experi^}ment gone tragically wrong back in '93, the steel termite enjoys metallic snacks. Fortunately, they were all killed by the r_}adiation.) and are extremely flimsy. You can go right through these walls (the security robots can't) as if they weren't the`}re. However, once you go through a section, the security robots can go through the holes you leave. You get one point for ea}very segment you destroy. Keys- These are used to open the various locked doors on each screen. Each key may only be ub}sed once, and you can carry only one key at a time. In addition, keys from one screen may not be used on other screens. Youc} get 10 points for picking up a key. Locked doors- These can only be opened by a key. They look like solid bluish-greed}n walls. You get 20 points for opening a door. Uranium and Plutonium- Your object is to pick these up. Uranium is stoe}red in blue boxes, and is worth 40 points. Plutonium is stored in green boxes, and is worth 75 points. The Bomb- Fortuf}nately, this is a conventional weapon and won't detonate the uranium or plutonium. Unfortunately, it is very unstable, and ig}f anything runs into it, you or the robots, it will explode. The Mutation Box- This is a nifty little gizmo which will h}cause the security robots to "mutate" to another form. It has no effect on you. The Exit portal- When you have collecti}ed all the uranium and plutonium, and have killed all the security robots, this diamond-shaped portal will appear. Enter it j}to go to the next level. The Robots- There are five types of robots: The "Masher", the "Basher", the "Smasher", the "Ck}rasher", and "Spike". They function identically. However, if two robots of different types collide, one or both are destroyl}ed. If two robots of the same type collide, nothing happens. When a robot is killed, you get 1-5 points. Naturally, you wam}nt this to happen, as it is the only way to destroy the robots. Thus, your strategy is to move the Cadmium blocks around in sn}uch a way that collisions are the result. You have a time limit to complete each screen, which varies. If your time runo}s out, you lose a life. If you successfully complete a screen in the required time, you recieve a 400 point bonus for each fp}ull minute you have left, and a 5-point bonus for every extra second. There are four ways for you to die. You lose a liq}fe if you collide with a security robot, run into an electric wall or a security wall, run out of time, or if you or a robot r}run into a bomb. You get five robots and a bonus robot every 10,000 points. You may have no more than 9 robots at a time, hs}owever. At the bottom of the screen is the scoreboard. It shows your score, the high score, the time left, the screen at}nd level you are on, how many lives you have, the amout of plutonium and uranium left, the number of security robots left, an}$Q (c)1983 Action Computer Services B JKIHiDiELV`L=$v} =$ BLV`lL$$l L$ &` Fj`8冨凪` $EӅӥw} $`ʆǪƩ Ɛee` $ƦʆǢ &Ɛeǐ % %L$ $'&&&8儨児x}祂*L$&&*ń8&&L$ [%`hihiHHȱȱL$c !#3`y}L$JJJJ`H $h`Hȩh r$L% {$L% %$L% -$L% 3$H8z}`HhHh _&L% BHI V䅠L% L& =$L%Ԇ ؠPIPP`{} &P -$L% &L& &L& 'L&H- &8塪墨hL' 'L& &'L& &ȹP`|}텠8堨塪 &芨Oȩ-`PP &P棩 Ѥģ0-ģ6000:,80H }}& &ehe&eģ0ʥ 8堅塅`$ &&*i0:0i &Ʀ`¢ 护~}°ڱ%ȱ%E &L`(担CS R&L`(I 'L`(H (L`( &L`( &B V %NLMȑ}INSERT DESTINATION DISK,TYPE RETURN` `L,8,0( r}L1(`ߢ) 1* 1 ~0Y`hhL S SL1) 8`NAME OF FILE TO MOVE?- 0 0|DLt}% A., 1 <0 0 .@L# .BJ 1 DEHIB V L1 ,5 1 <0,L. } JB|,A#Pd#DE 1 HI BDEHHII 1 B 1 , 1 <0,0Lf- B V},A#P, 1 <0 0L#L ߢ) 1* 1 ~0Yj383}mm ݭ}}`8}``|* ? ɛ,`|:(|/ 1L `DESTINATION CANT }BE DOS.SYS0 0H{ $22Δ $28/L /) $2 Π $2 0 ξ}hAΞB,0 J 1 BޝDEHI,HDE 1HIHIDELSAVE-}GIVE FILE,START,END(,INIT,RUN)O X0 1`BDEPHI V` X0H 1 L }0 0 1L0`PLEASE TYPE 1 LETTER,0`hhL <0 1L0LA1 ,;ɛ7,"ɛ:ݦ1ݥ}A"D|ݤD|ȩ:|ȩ|ɛ,,(/+.ީ1 1,ɛ`轤{}NAME TOO LONG B VL ` L1I H1EӝDL1|mDiE` V0`8d/8 i:"2!22 1} L ERROR- 128ɛ+,' 20*.. өw2 1``2TOO MANY DIGITSINVALID} HEXADECIMAL PARAMETER800 0 8 00`,0'D800H,ɛh`2L1NEED D1 THRU D4u} HEXADECIMAL PARAMETER800 0 8 00`,0'D800H,ɛh`2L1NEED D1 THRU D4u` MLN%B VL%S:)E:)H L& ) ) & L&h)0I))L&[\ZUVT` @)))}J*7 (c)1983 Action Computer Services B JKIHiDiELV`L*} * BLV`EL**l L* &` Fj`8冨凪` +EӅӥ} +`ʆǪƩ Ɛee` &+ƦʆǢ &Ɛeǐ J+ J+L+ &+'&&&8儨児}祂*L+&&*ń8&&L+ +`hihiHHȱȱL*c !#3`}L*JJJJ`H *h`Hȩh *L7, *L7, k*L7, s*L7, y*H8}`HhHh ,L7, BHI V䅠L7, L, *L7,Ԇ ؠPIPP`} -P s*L7, 3-L, -L8- L-L-H- -8塪墨hLL- e-L, l-L- -ȹP`}텠8堨塪 -芨Oȩ-`PP ,P棩 Ѥģ0-ģ6000:,80H }& &ehe&eģ0ʥ 8堅塅`$ ,&*i0:0i ,Ʀ`¢ 护}°ڱ%ȱ%E ,L.担CS ,L.I e-L.H `.L. 3-L. &B V 7,NLMȑ}` MLN%B VL7,S:H/E:M/H , P/Q/ [, ,h)0IK/L/L[,[\ZUVT` /K/L/}` /L - /L, /L,) ` /L - l+` 0d *ҥ `2)2}ҩ`p`0)9G0`@0)ӈJJJJ)`Ѕ`ȱ`` {0ȥ`Hh}ƣĢ`ƥĤ`Ѣ 1`ȱѢĦ`膡`}`ťƤe8夰L1 Ƥ8`ŦeѠe桊L 1L1 }D/7L1 R/j k0811 {01 l+ 0 /L1 PRESENTING1 , /L2robom}ash2 , /L=22, , /L]2 ԠŠ2R , /L~2 THE GAME2r , /L}2 const set2 , /L2 2 ,0i 1i {011͑11L!31 m11*(m11}111L211͑11L4 / l+11 /1e11i1 / l+11 /}1e11i11 m11*(m1111 m11*(m11 m11*(m1ȱ1 m11*(m11}ȑ111L)3 {011͑11L51 m11*(m111"11 +i f /}"11 +i g /11͓11LQ5 11 +LF5 /11m1m1} k01%11)11 l+m1m11 {011L4 k0I k0I k0IL~5L5}m1m1 k0111 l+m1m11 {011L-4 k0I k0I k0I}L5 R/ {0 , k0ILJ6L66D:ROBOMASH.BIN6' [,L6 k0IL6Ll6D:ROBOCSET.BIN6]} [,L6L6 D:DUP.SYS6 [, L6ө {0 k0IL6 k0IL6 1 R/ /L6REMOVE CARTRIDGE6} , k066 {0L6`6s B JKIHiDiELV`L*&d whether or not you are carrying a key. If you wish to load screen you worked on previously, select LOAD at the bottom of the screenE}. The computer will check the disk for legal files, and if it finds any, the computer will respond with, "SELECT FF}ILE: A - Z". Type a letter between A and Z and it will print "INSERT DISK, TYPE X". Type X to load the file, any otherG} to abort the load. If the file you have selected isn't there, the computer will go back to the "SELECT FILE: A - H}Z" prompt. Press ESC or RETURN to abort. If the computer gives you an error message, press the button and try agaI}in. If you decide to save your file, look at the color of the word SAVE at the bottom of the screen. IfJ} it is red, the screen has all the required objects (2-60 robots, 1-99 blocks, 1-99 pieces of plutonium/uramium, a K}mutation box, an exit portal, and a starting square) and the screen that is saved can be used with ROBOMASH. If it L} is a lavendar color, the screen is not complete, and cannot be used with ROBOMASH until it is completed. It can be savM}ed and loaded back into Robo-C-Set, it can't just be played. Regardless of the color, when you select "SN}AVE" the following message will appear on the screen: "SELECT FILE: A - Z" (It should sound familiar.)O} Select the file you want (this letter will be the letter used to identify the screen in ROBOMASH), or press ESC or P} RETURN to abort. If you do select a file, the computer will print "INSERT DISK, TYPE X". If you press any other key,Q} the save will be aborted. If you do press X, one of the following things will happen: The file will be saved, orR} the file will already exist, or there will be an error. If the file exists, a message will appear telling you so,S} and will ask if it is OK to overwrite. If you type Y the file will be overwritten, otherwise the save will be aborted.T} If there is an error, correct the problem, press the button, and try again. By now you are probably asU}king how you use these screens with ROBOMASH. It is simple. You first load ROBOMASH so the title screen appears, aV}nd insert a disk with screen data on it. There can be anywhere between 1 and 26 screen files on a disk, and they can beW} called anything you want (ie D, I, Q, V, and Z.) They DO NOT have to start with A. After the disk is inserted, pX}ress CONTROL-SHIFT-D. The drive will whirr for a few seconds, and if there are any legal screen files on the disk,Y} the screen will turn grey. You can select the screen you want to start on by pressing OPTION. (You can only do this Z} when playing off of the disk.) Press START to begin, as normal.
